Ban System

An advanced feature of the e107 is the Banning System. Typically, for fairly static websites which don't use many advanced interactive features will rarely need to use the banning system.

It is necessary from time to time, to ban certain visitors, this can be for mostly from spamming systems which attempt to post non-sense on your website or for abusive behaviour.

The best way to protect your site is to limit what external visitors can do on your website. The first thing to do is to set your preferences correctly for your needs. Disable any features which you do not need.

Banning

You can ban people from your site using different criteria.

The first is by user ID. This will ban a registered member from logging into the site, but they will still be able to visit the site.

Next is by IP address. Banning a visitor by their IP address will stop them from seeing the site completely. IP address wildcards can be used, entering 123.345.456.* will ban 123.345.456.567 and also 123.345.567.111.

You can also ban by email address. This will prevent anyone with a particular email address registering at your site.

Lastly, you can ban a visitor by his host. Entering com.cy will ban anyone from that host from visiting your site. Be careful though, entering co.uk will ban anyone coming from the United Kingdom - possibly including yourself!
